My Bio - 2001

Dee Walmsley

I've done many things in my life but wildlife rehabilitation has to rate number one as my favourite occupation. I have been fortunate enough to have raccoon kits think of me as a "mum" and to feel the satisfaction of seeing oiled birds released back into a clean environment knowing that I played a small part in their recovery.

I founded and chaired for ten years the Boundary Bay Oil Spill society, which trained volunteers to care for oiled birds and raised funds for the current inventory of oiled wildlife response equipment.

I have produced a number of videos for cablevision on oil spills and urban wildlife issues, among them my first children's series Spills, Slicks and Sealife.

I conduct workshops on Living With Urban Wildlife for local school children and write a monthly wildlife column for a number of e-zines.

After serving on a number of volunteer boards such as the Stanley Park Ecological Society, Urban Wildlife Committee, BC Citizens Advisory Committee on Oil Spills, Delta Youth Services, Surrey Opportunity Society and the BC Oiled Wildlife Society. I have decided to focus on nature writing. I now facilitate nature-writing workshops for Writer's Village University on the Internet, and in my spare time work on my two novels.
