PLASTICS IN THE ENVIRONMENT

Duration 1 hr.

Video - TRASHING OUR OCEANS

Examines boating pollution, effects on sea turtles other marine life

DISCUSSION - Helium Balloons, Each year millions of birds, turtles, whales, dolphins and seals become entangled in floating plastic debris or mistake it for food. Plastic six-pack holders that are carelessly discarded from boats or left on beaches are death traps for wildlife. By becoming entangled in this synthetic noose birds die of strangulation or starvation. Plastic bags and balloons choke our dolphins and sea turtles which they mistake for jelly fish. Discarded fish nets strangle seals and other marine mammals.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ?
